On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced that Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan will be their candidate for the upcoming vice presidential election under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The BJP confirmed that their coalition partners have expressed their support for Radhakrishnan's nomination.
JP Nadda, the party president, expressed optimism about Radhakrishnan's election, hoping for an unopposed outcome.
During a press conference, Nadda stated, “We will engage with the Opposition as well. It is important to gain their backing to facilitate an unopposed election for the vice president's role.”
Nadda further mentioned, “As previously indicated, we have maintained communication with them, and our senior leaders have reached out before. We will continue to engage with them, and all our NDA partners are on board.”
CP Radhakrishnan has held the position of Maharashtra governor since July 2024. His prior roles include serving as the governor of Jharkhand and Telangana, as well as the lieutenant governor of Puducherry.
Additionally, he was a Lok Sabha MP representing Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
